Granulati Zandobbio supplies the paving for the Ocean Terminal Extension in Hong Kong
In one of the most visited cities in the world, Granulati Zandobbio, in collaboration with the Belgian company Stone NV, becomes the protagonist of the entire external paving of the Ocean Terminal Extension project in Hong Kong, inaugurated in 2017. An area of 7000 m2 (75347,37 ft2) which boasts the sintered stone paving L'ALTRA PIETRA Colosseo Grigioni 60x120x2 cm (24”x48”x0.8”), a faithful reproduction of the Swiss Onsernone granite, while the original in natural stone was supplied to create the large panoramic stairway. The project is the work of the renowned British architecture firm Foster + Partners.
The Ocean Terminal Extension is a real experience that gives visitors and international cruise ship passengers the opportunity to stroll along Hong Kong's waterfront and enjoy the splendid views of the harbor and the skyline. The building has made it possible to transform an ordinary cruise terminal into a lively entertainment center right in the center of the city port. Standing next to the sea, visitors can enjoy a 270-degree view of the city, from the Kowloon Peninsula in the northeast to Causeway Bay in the southeast.
The architectural project was studied according to the climate of the maritime, nautical and subtropical environment, in fact, it develops on large cantilevered terraces that shade the lower levels, protecting them from the strong sun. The paving materials were chosen by the architectural firm thanks to their incredible technical features that make them long-lasting and super resistant. In fact, the products have a high chromatic resistance to light, salt, thermal shock and stains, furthermore the high surface hardness protects them from wear, they have low water absorption, they are anti-slip and can handle high loads.
The building also offers retail, dining and lounge services, with a stepped outdoor seating area from which to sit and enjoy the views. The steps in Onsernone Swiss Granite are fitted with glass risers which admit natural light deep into the internal atrium.
